I have to admit, Justin Bieber came up with a pretty good fragrance idea in collaboration with Etoile Nation… scented jewelry! The fragrant dog tags and bracelets have been at Walmart since fall 2010, and are now coming to CVS and FYE with new pomegranate scents, available for just $10. It’s got trendy written all over it, especially with the upcoming opportunity to get your own customized dog tags from Etoilenation.com/custom. Mom’s, brace yourselves for your kids trying to explain why they need $100 for those custom dog tags though! Surely they won’t want to be seen in school with the plain $10 version. Back to the great idea part though, what a practical format for those who don’t like putting perfume on their skin, or want to change scents throughout the day. Though in the form of a Bieber dog tag… you might want to leave it for the kiddies.

You can see Justin Bieber wearing his custom white gold and diamond dog tags in his “That Should Be Me” video with Rascal Flatts:

I’ve followed Kim Kardashian’s debut perfume since it was just talk. Years later, it is now one among us in the world of celebrity perfumes! Exclusive seller, Sephora is promoting the new scent with a “Live Like Kim Kardashian Sweepstakes” for their Beauty Insiders members. If you go to Sephora’s Facebook page, you’ll see it defaults to a special tab called “Meet Kim.” There, you can get the details on how to enter “for a chance to meet Kim and spend a day living her glamorous life.” There are also links to shop her brand on Sephora, how to “get her look” with cosmetics, and a YouTube video of Kim’s fragrance ad. I’m excited to see this fragrance out on the scene now. I now she really took her time and made a great effort to get her first fragrance just right. Congrats Kim!

Matthew McConaughey was spotted doing a photo shoot on the Zuma Beach in Malibu yesterday. It was most likely a photo shoot for Dolce & Gabbana’s fragrance, The One, which McConaughey has been the spokesmodel for since its launch about a year and a half ago. See more pics here: http://backseatcuddler.com/2010/01/28/matthew-mcconaughey-tux-on-the-beach/

The One is available in a men’s and women’s version. Check them out here: http://man.dolcegabbanatheone.com/

Kim Kardashian, being attentive to her fans via her blog, posted yesterday that she was recently in NYC to debut her self-titled fragrance to “beauty editors from Seventeen MagazineLucky MagazineGlamourSelf and a ton more!” And the result of a phone interview has already been published in WWD. The bottle design and scent have been completed and she’s busy at work with the early stages of promotion. The WWD article mentioned that Kim has an incredible online fan base, over 2.5 million followers on Twitter! So in addition to print advertising, a lot of the promotion for the fragrance will take place on Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.

Kim has made a point of including her fans in the process of making this fragrance. It may be the first perfume creation to be thoroughly documented on a blog! The blog was the first place she announced she would be making a fragrance. She even posted photos of the cast of the bottle design. The shade of pink to be used on the bottle was decided by a poll she presented to her fans. So it’s no surprise that Kim will be doing some surprise appearances for the release that she will only announce on Twitter. I’m assuming that these appearances will be at Sephora locations, since Sephora said she would be doing appearances in their stores. The perfume will be available exclusively at Sephora for three months, and released elsewhere by Mother’s Day, 2010.

It’s kind of ironic that the fragrance will be debuted to the rest of the world by Mother’s Day. The fragrance was originally planned to hit stores before Mother’s Day in 2009! When that date came and the perfume was still not out, I spoke with the reported producer of the fragranceNew Wave Fragrances. New Wave is the producer of the Ed Hardy line of fragrances, and Christian Audigier fragrances. They told me to expect a release of the perfume in early 2010. That’s still true, but WWD reported that the producer of the fragrance is now Lighthouse Beauty, producer of 50 Cent’s Power fragrance. So I’m guessing the delay with the perfume may have to do with some back story about the business end of the deal.

Regardless, the scent has been completed and Kim says it’s “exactly how she wants to smell.” It features crisp top notes; middle notes of  jasmine, tuberose, and gardenia; and base notes of tonka bean, jacaranda wood, and sandalwood. Again, it will debut with a three month exclusive at Sephora, and roll out to department stores by Mother’s Day.

Kat Von D, of L.A. Ink on TLC, has her own brand of cosmetics and perfume at Sephora now. The line includes two perfumes, named in true bad-girl spirit, Sinner and Saint. The most interesting thing about them is the perfume format. They are sold not only as an eau de parfum spray, but also as a EDP roll-on ball pen, and as a solid in a black flower ring.

Sephora describes Sinner as:

“Light, delicate top notes of orange blossom, refreshing mandarin, and fleshy plum create a provocative, sultry heart. Rich jasmine blends seamlessly with a white-flower bouquet, beautifully tainted by the spicy warmth of cinnamon, an herb associated with ancient rituals of pleasure. A dark, mysterious back of earthy vetiver, patchouli, and woods enveloped in creamy vanilla and sensual musk lingers on the skin.”

And Saint is described as:

“The sweet nectar of Mirabelle Plum and sparkling juicy mandarin create an addictive, mouth-watering top. At the heart, exotic, heady Tiare flower and sweet, tempting caramel are adorned with the velvety floralcy of jasmine, the queen of the night, as she emits her spellbinding fragrance into the sky. Sensual vanilla and creamy musk combine with the warmth of sandalwood for a comforting dry down.”

The reception from customers seems to be well, with a 4 out of 5 star rating. Check them out at Sephora.com.

In July 2008, Kim Kardashian annouced on her blog that she was making her own perfume, and that it would be out in May 2009, before Mother’s Day. Well, it’s May, and I haven’t been able to find a shred of info on a release, or even a name for it.

Kim was very excited about announcing the perfume, saying:

“It has always been a dream of mine to start my own perfume business, since I love to mix fragrances together and come up with new and different scents! I hope you understand my total excitement as I let you, the readers of my blog, become the first to know that I am creating my own fragrance!!”

Kim said she was working with French perfumer Caroline Sabas to create the perfume that will be produced by New Wave Fragrances. She even mentioned the bottle designer, Scott Oshry.

I’ll do my best to find out when this fragrance is coming out. In the meantime here’s a couple blog posts from Kim’s blog to keep us occupied:

Coming out just in time for Mother’s Day is ANNIKA, the first perfume from golf celebrity Annika Sorenstam. For those who aren’t familiar with Annika here’s a great little bio I found on readygolf.com:

“Annika is the greatest female golfer of our generation and often regarded as the best player in LPGA history. Her prestigious list of accomplishments includes her 2003 induction into the World Golf and LPGA Halls of Fame, ten Major Championships, 88 worldwide professional victories, eight LPGA Player of the Year Awards and participation on eight Solheim Cup teams. In June 2008, Annika was named a USGA Ambassador. Annika has worked hard on her off-the-course businesses, which include the ANNIKA Academy, the ANNIKA Foundation, the ANNIKA Collection with Cutter & Buck, ANNIKA Financial Group, numerous golf course design projects, tournaments she hosts, along with her website and blog.”

The new perfume is being marketed for women, and has notes of amber, vanilla, white flowers and fresh citrus. ANNIKA will be available in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Scandinavia beginning in May 2009, before Mother’s Day.
